Part I of the Fall
7.3 million viewers witnessed the beginning of The Fall on Sunday January 21st Waking the Dead clearly beat out Trial and Retribution which pulled in only 5.4 million viewers. Shouuld I mention that a snooker final garnered 3.1 million viewers. Almost half as many people watched snooker as did Trevor Eve and the cold case gang. But hey, in the US at 9pm on Sunday, 17.1 million people were watching Desperate Housewives (many many more people were probably watching football, but that carried over several timeslots).
Part II of The Fall
A few people seemed to have forgotten that Waking the Dead was on or they were still suffering from Monday Blues, because only 7.2 million were around to uncover the final secrets of The Fall. In comparison, 5.1 million watched Trial and Retribution, 1.6 milion staged a Prison Break, while 1.1 million learned some Nuclear Secrets.

What Happened and Why in Cold Fusion. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know this aired over a year ago and I’m just now posting this. These things happen, or sometimes don’t.
Here’s the real question of the hour - why was this episode name Cold Fusion? I know nothing about nuclear physics, but as best as I can tell, the thingee about cold fusion is that you are able to get hydrogen atoms to get real real close to one another (fusion) while near room temperature (cold). When hydrogen atoms collide, whoa baby watch out. Basically, without expending a lot of energy, you create a lot of energy. The other thingee about cold fusion is that it is prudent to include the word “theoretical” in any discussion about this energy source.
Some possibilities: Cold case, cold fusion. The original murder victims were anti-nuke protestors . Volatile situations develop out of ordinary occurrences.
I don’t know, why do you think it’s called Cold Fusion? Add your comments below or in the forum.
In any event, this was a first rate episode and that’s not theoretical.
Next up on Waking the Dead is The Fall where the mummified remains of a sexually conjoined couple fall through the ceiling of a bank during renovations. Part one of The Fall airs this Sunday January 20th on BBC One at 9pm and part two airs the following Monday, January 21st at 9pm on BBC One.
After The Fall comes Mask of Sanity which involves the possible connection between a newly released psychiatric patient and several murders. Part one of Mask of Sanity airs Sunday January 28 at 9pm on BBC One and concludes on Monday January 29th at 9pm on BBC One.
The fifth episode of the sixth series is Double Bind which appears to involve another psychiatric patient. We’ll see.

Meet Eve Lockhart the newest addition to the Waking the Dead cast as of the first series 6 episode Wren Boys. Eve Lockhart. Eve L Evel. Seriously, who named this character. Go lock yourself in the broom closet for three hours as punishment. Did we need another Eve associated with Waking the Dead? Of course no character name could rival Saint Ella for perfection or Stella, as she is known to some.
To learn more about her character (it’s a spoiler thing, you understand) check out the forum or the what and why when it is ready in a couple of days.

We have a shoutbox. Not quite a full fledged chat room as in the past. But just a quick little something that might be fun or useful to share quick thoughts.
If you can catch someone online when you are, test it out.
It’s still an experiment, for one because the software is still being developed and two, because I don’t know of anyone with a prior interest in a chat function. The one we used to have was a lot of fun but times change.
Try it, see if you like it.

As some prepare to watch the first Waking the Dead in ages, here’s a bnef synopsis of how we left the Cold Case Squad. The squad is at its lowest point, physically and in terms of being able to trust one another.
There was lots of personal development in the squad revealed during Cold Fusion. We revisited one of Spence’s earliest cases as a P.C. in 1988. He and partner, Tom McQueen were called to the scene of a vicious double murder. Spence says the experience had left him permanently scarred. That would be the least of it because it is revealed that McQueen was in fact the murderer. He was workinig with some other misguided corrupt cops all in the name of the greater good. At the time of the double murders. McQueen was working for Bill Drake. Drake is now a Commander and an anti-terrorism big wig. Drake is also something of a surrogate step-father to the squad’s newest member, D.C. Stella Goodman.
Drake and crew try to scare Spence by sending him an explosive disguised as a birthday present. Unfortunately, Dr. Felix Gibson gets the business end of the explosive in her face. She recovers with some facial scarring.
Stella’s relationship to Drake is revealed, as well as the fact that she has been helping him to try and destroy evidence. Boyd, Grace and Felix hold her accountable for every bad thing that has happened that day. It’s a bit unreasonable, given that they’ve been lying to Stella and Spence for most of the episode, but it’s what they do.
Boyd and Grace are worried and annoyed with Stella but otherwise okay. Felix is jittery and annoyed. Stella is distraught about betraying the team and feeling betrayed by a trusted friend and mentor.
Spence is lying on the ground with two gunshot wounds and bleeding profusely as Boyd tries to get help to save his life.
