According to a Waking the Dead insider who can only be anonymous, the show has a special surprise for the new episodes.

The writers have caught on that the viewers are clamoring for anything and everything about Boyd's personal life. As a result, they will introduce a new character, Leslie Boyd, Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd's older brother. The details are sketchy but Les and Peter have been estranged for many years. Les had been a cop on the fast track to the top but was forced out due to a scandal.
As part of a special anti-corruption team, his job was to provide back up for undercover officer D.C. Elisabeth Magie. Magie was posing as the girlfriend of Morgan Rogers, one of the most notorious smugglers in London's underworld. The team was on the verge of gathering the final bits of evidence needed to arrest Rogers when he disappeared along with £1,000,000 in bearer bonds. Most important of all, he left behind a very dead D.C. Magie who was found with her throat slit in one of Rogers' warehouses. It was widely believed in the department that Les had made a deal with Rogers and was paid off with the bonds but as the department's golden boy he was forced to retire to minimize embarrassment to the Met. Les claimed innocence but most, including his brother Peter, feel he was lucky to avoid being prosecuted and jailed, if not for being corrupt than for failing to protect D.C. Magie. Now, 20 years later, Morgan Rogers's remains have been uncovered in a Tower Street warehouse that was being rehabbed into trendy flats. Forensics confirm that he had been there since the time of his disappearance. Along with the corpse were £50,000 of the bearer bonds.
Boyd believes if he can track down the rest of the missing money he can catch the killer. But when other members of Rogers's organization start turning up with their throats slit, the trail of suspects with enough knowledge to commit the crimes leads back to Boyd's disgraced brother. Fortunately, for Les he wins an unlikely champion within the cold case team who risks everything to clear Les Boyd of murder.
Les Boyd will be portrayed by relative newcomer Harry Welles, who has made some credits on stage in the US and has been in a few movies but nothing in recent years. We will be anxious to see what magic Harry can conjure up for our amusement in the coming series.
